Amidst such urbanization challenges, realizing sustainable urbanism as defined under the principles of urbanism is becoming a far-fetched dream in most African Cities and yet still something that can be achieved if governments opt to pursue key reforms that focus on upgrading informal settlements, mobilizing urban financing from local and foreign investors, improving human capital and diversification of urban economic activities among others.
On the other hand, the time is right for planners, policy makers and scholars to explore what works and what does not work in the African urbanization process. By so doing, managing urbanization in the context of Africa will be governed by how Africa defines urbanization and the standards by which such urbanization is measured.
