Internal impingement and external impingement : A Part from The Book Chapter : A Guide for Quick Assessment and Management of Subacromial Impingement Syndrome

Another classification of impingement syndrome divides SAIS into two parts that are Internal impingement (Non-outlet syndrome) and external impingement (Outlet syndrome). Non-outlet syndrome or internal impingement causes posterior shoulder pain and is seen commonly in overhead athletes due to the impingement of the rotator cuff on the posterior-superior glenoid labrum. Outlet syndrome or external impingement is mainly due to impingement of the structures in the subacromial space.
