Diabetes can Cause Chronic Kidney Disease : A Part from The Book Chapter : Prevention, Recognition, and Treatment of Acute Kidney Injury in ICU

Diabetes-related conditions and complications, including hyperosmolar hyperglycaemic state, diabetic ketoacidosis and sepsis, are major risk factors for AKI in the ICU setting. Diabetes can cause chronic kidney disease, which predisposes to AKI. Diabetes can also impair the autoregulation of renal blood flow and increase the susceptibility to ischemic injury.
