India leads the world in the export of generic medications (>20%), with a value of approximately US$ 14 billion and an annual growth rate of 30%. India is currently exporting pharmaceuticals to over 200 countries, with the US being one of the largest markets for these products.
The pharmaceutical industry in India is the third largest in the world by volume and the 13th largest by value as of 2023. More than 60,000 generic medications are produced by the industry across 60 distinct therapeutic categories. In the fiscal year 2022–2023, pharmaceutical exports brought in $25.3 billion for India.
